Settling

I read an article today on Newsweek.com titled, “The Case Against Settling“.  It talks about the new book by Lori Gottlieb, Marry Him: The Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough.

The author of the book talks about settling for that one guy that loves you, even if you don’t completely feel the same way. Julie Baird the author of the Newsweek article disagrees with this.

And so do I.

A few years ago, I met a guy who was nice and we became movie buddies. Every weekend we would see a new movie. I wasn’t physically attracted to him but enjoyed his company. Then one night this guy kissed me. And still I felt nothing. I knew I had to tell him that I thought nothing more of him then a friend. When I went home I told a friend about this and she said, maybe you should settle. What? Was she serious? Why should anyone settle?

How can you ever be happy with someone that you are not attracted to on all levels. Is it being picky? In a way yes, because you want someone that when you look at them you just smile. You smile because he is amazing inside and out. A man that makes you weak in the knees. A man that you are deeply in love with because he has all of the qualities you are looking for.

As we get older those qualities change as we date and weed out the bad ones. Some women do settle because they fear their time is running out. They have expectations of where they are supposed to be at a certain point in their life. Do I have friends that settle? Yes.

But me, I refuse to settle for any less then butterflies.
