The Dating Life

November 30, 2008 at 10:18 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

Since my big breakup last year I have been searching the Dating pool in Los Angeles. It has been interesting. There have been guys that are attracted to me but I am not attracted to them. There have been guys who are great to talk to but that is it, no physical attraction. Then there are the ones that are expecting something on the first date. Some sort of physical activity to happen.

Seriously who are these guys? They say they want a girl who is smart, fun, and can carry a conversation, but the first thing they are thinking about is getting you into bed. They tell you they are not expecting anything but then after talking to them for a few days you find out that is all they want, sex.

Yes I do enjoy the physical activity of a relationship but give me some time to get to know you before we jump into bed. I just want a normal guy that wants to go out and enjoy LA life. Someone I can stay at home with and watch a movie. Someone that will go to the bookstore with me. Someone who will embrace my Midwest roots.

Kids Say the Darndest Things

The little guy showing off his new robe

The little guy showing off his new robe

I called my little brother the other night and my nephew answered. He is only 6 but sometimes I think he is older. He is the cutest little guy and always happy. When I am feeling down I call him to make me smile. That is what happened the other night.

He told me that he went out to dinner with Grandma (my mom) and Daddy (my little brother). He then asked me about my dinner plans.

“Who is going to make you dinner?”
“I make my own dinner.”
“What are you going to have?”
“I am going to figure that out when I get home.”
“Um you should have beans and rice.”
“Beans and rice?”
“Yes beans and rice.”
“Do you mean Green Beans and rice?” He is a big vegetable eater.
“Yes.”
“Well I need to have meat with it, maybe I should have chicken with it.”
“Yeah that sounds good.”
“Beans rice and chicken. I will have lots of milk to drink with it.”
“No you have to drink apple juice because that makes you poop.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.  It was to funny. He said it because that is what he drinks with dinner. His ritual is chocolate milk in the morning and apple juice the rest of the day and for that very reason. There are days he just amazes me by things he says and makes me smile. You can’t help but think he is the cutest thing ever.

The Sauce Incident

November 20, 2008 at 6:32 pm (Uncategorized)

The other night I was on the phone with my good friend, Anna, while making dinner. I was just making spaghetti. I cooked the noodles and used sauce out of a jar I had just bought the day before. Once I was finished I put my noodles and sauce in a bowl and put my cheese on the top. Very simple meal but so good.

I went to put the jar of sauce back in the fridge, the whole time on the phone with my friend. I opened the door to the fridge and then the jar of sauce slipped out of my hands, crashed to the floor and exploded everywhere. There wasn’t to much glass but sauce was everywhere. There was sauce on the inside of the door, on the crisper drawer, on the floor and under the fridge. Did I mention that I bought the jar of Prego the day before. I started cleaning up the sauce and got most of it wiped up and then ate my dinner. After I was done I took more paper towels and wiped more under the fridge. And I thought I had gotten it all but as I would pull out the towel from under the fridge there was lots more. It will still coming out in chunks. Now I am without sauce and hoping I got it all. The next morning I cleaned up the fridge more with a sponge and the 409. I hope I got it all and that the roommate will never find out. She will never let me live it down.
I am not sure how it flew that far under the fridge but I did learn something, DO NOT TALK ON THE PHONE WHILE MAKING SPAGHETTI.

California Wildfires

November 17, 2008 at 12:21 am (life, random) ()

Living in California you get accustomed to a few things; sitting in traffic, homeless people, earthquakes, warm weather and wildfires.

This past week has been rather warm in California, we have had up to 91 degress on some days. It is very strange being that warm in November but we are liking it here. With the warm weather it has also been dry and that means wildfires. The fires have been burning for a few days and sprouting in various areas of Southern California. I have been fortunate that it hasn’t gotten close to where I live. The fires are so severe that I am able to smell the smoke and the sky looks like there is heavy smog.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those affected by the fires and have lost their home.

Till Next Time

November 14, 2008 at 5:50 pm (Uncategorized)

Till the next time I see you. That is what I always say. I know there will always be a next time but I never know when. The minute I hear from you I count down until we see each other. Until the time when I walk in the restaurant and see you at the table with our margaritas already ordered. Till the time when I walk up to the table and see that smile on your face that is as big as mine. When I sit down you give me a kiss to say hello. We catch up on what has been going on and have a few laughs.

Lately after our usual catch up conversation we have been talking about our plans for our future business. That talk gives me hope that you will always be in my life. It gives me hope that I will always see that face.

After we are finished with our meal and drinks we walk over to the room you booked before I came. Going there is closer for you to go to work if you need to leave suddenly. When we get to the room we waste no time in exploring each other’s bodies again. Making up for lost time. After our post meal workout we take a nap in each other’s arms. Laying there with you gives me a glimpse of what it would be like to sleep in your arms every night.

After a few hours it was time for you to go back to work. That is the hardest part for me. I should be used to it because that is the way it has always been. Lately it has been getting harder. Tonight as I drove away my stomach just sank. I should have told you that I love you but I was to scared to say the words out loud. We have known each other long enough that I shouldn’t be, but there is a fear that won’t let me.

So now I just count down until the next time

Apartment Living

November 13, 2008 at 8:55 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

The joys of apartment living. I don’t have the funding or the credit to even start thinking about buying a house. I know houses are cheap now but I am in a rebuilding year. A lot of rebuilding in and out.

My roommate and I have been living in our apartment for 2 years now. The property is owned by a management company and in that time we have been through 5 managers. It has been interesting. They have all tried to make major improvements and finally they are happening. We have new pool chairs, new remotes for our garage and they are currently remodeling our lobby. In our own apartment they have fixed the bathrooms, given us a fan for above the stove, and any repairs have been done right away. Okay it take them over a week to come in and fix the rod in my closet that fell off. Yeah I was not happy when I came home from my vacation sick and had to sleep on the couch because my clothes were still on my bed. We also now have a maintenance team, we used to have one guy for the whole building.

Well today, my only day off, I had planned to do laundry. Little did I know they were fixing the laundry room on my floor. I walked down to the laundry room and the machines are out of there and there is a guy painting in there. Then I walked down to the third floor and the same thing. The maintenance guy told me they are doing the laundry rooms on the 3rd and 4th floor this week and they just did the 1st and 2nd floor. So today I am walking up and down the stairs to the 2nd floor to do laundry.

Yes I should be happy about the leg workout I will be getting today but can’t you give a girl notice you are doing maintenance.

The Ex Husband

November 13, 2008 at 8:56 am (Uncategorized) (, )

October 3, 2005 was the last time I was able to hug and kiss him. It was the day he left. January of this year the divorce was final. (The reason for that was money. He left he pays and he offered.) We still talk and email as much as we can. He also sends gifts for Christmas and my birthday. This year for my birthday I got cash so I could go out and get something for myself.

Today I got an email from him about a free seminar he is hosting and the new thing he is involved in. He lives in Sydney Australia so no I cannot attend this seminar, though after watching a Youtube video he did, I am upset I can’t. The youtube video is explaining a 30k in 30 day challenge him and two other people are doing. When I first saw the video I was at work on our no sound computer. All I could think while watching it was, “Am I watching an infomercial at midnight?” and “Are you throwing in a free blender with that?”
When I was able to watch the video with sound it was even more of a late night infomercial. I think it was even funnier with sound because it was all him. Everything goofy I remembered about him. Also everything I remembered about him and his get rich quick schemes. Though I don’t think this one is. It is great to see him doing well.

But I still want to know “Are you throwing in a free blender with that?” and “How much are you sending me for Christmas?”

Joys of Working on Melrose

November 12, 2008 at 11:21 pm (Uncategorized) (, )

The day job consists of me working for a well known sneaker retailer on the infamous Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. Though we do have regular customers, we do get a lot of tourists. Many that I think are not to smart. Some questions we get that annoy us are:

What is the biggest size you have in this? And when you ask them what size they wear it is a size 7.
Do you have this in other colors? Yes and they are all out
Do you have anything in the back that isn’t out?No everything is out. And even if we did you are not Brad Pitt, David Beckham, Charlize Theron or Usher.
I saw this at a mall store cheaper, do you price match? No we are an independent store so we charge what the company tells us.
Do you work here? No I am just standing behind the counter for fun.
Do you have my size in this? I don’t know what size are you?
If I buy more than one pair can I get a 30% discount? I don’t even get that so um no.
I don’t know what size my kid wears can you figure it out? Really lady you don’t know what size you bought for your kid last time.
I need this in an 8.5. Sorry we only have a 7. Can I still try it on? It will be small. That is okay I will still try it. Really don’t be mad when it doesn’t fit.
Why don’t you have this in a 10.5? Let me see it is a black and white shoe from six months ago and you wear the most popular size.
Are you Jewish? No but my bosses are.

Then we get the crazies that walk the streets of Melrose everyday, tourists that don’t understand anything, and the rude jamaicans. No Jamaicans are not the nicest people.

Code Names

November 12, 2008 at 7:10 am (Uncategorized) ()

The code names for the President and Vice President-Elect and their families have been leaked today. Throughout history all President’s and political figures have been given code names while they were being transported.

It got me thinking about the code names my friends and I have given people that have come into our life. Those people that have stayed for only a short time. They were given these names because of certain personality traits, their job, or how they look. A few of the names of the people who have entered my life are:

Hot Toddie
Tour Manager
Grandpa Ken (only the sorority girls will understand that one)
The Italian
The Fish Guy (He works in the aquatic industry)
The Soap Actor
Ventura (He lives in Ventura)
Doctor
Psycho (An ex, he got the name after we broke up)
My favorite Sexy Man
The Australian Musician (the ex husband)

Only four of the above are still in my life. No I will not reveal who but they have stayed because of things other than what gave them their code name.

Stupid People

November 11, 2008 at 8:46 pm (Uncategorized)

We all have our moments when we space out due to other things on our mind or just lack of sleep. This morning though I saw a few people that were just stupid.

I was at the bank. Yes I know it is closed today because of Veteran’s Day. I was going to deposit a check through the ATM. Well there were a few people that didn’t know today is Veteran’s Day.

The bank is setup so when it is closed you have to insert your ATM card into a slot and the door will open. There were 3 people that didn’t realize that is what you had to do. A guy in line in front of me opened the door for another woman who was struggling with the door issue and once she got into the ATM area, realized it is Veteran’s Day. One guy was pulling on the door with his business checkbook in hand. Again another not realizing the bank was closed.

There were at least 7 of us standing in line for the ATM and the lights inside the lobby of the bank were not on. Seriously people is that not a clue the bank is closed? There is also a sign on the door saying that the bank will be closed because of Veteran’s Day. Turn on the news in the morning, I know they were talking about it. Look at a calendar.
